Eggs

Sunny-side / soft-boiled egg

In pregnancy: Only if… While breastfeeding: Safe

Rare, but serious if it happens

What makes it safe

Only with firm yolk and white

Why

Runny yolk (sunny-side up, soft-boiled, poached): salmonella risk. In pregnancy the egg must be cooked until both yolk and white are firm: for a fried egg, flip it or cover the pan.

It changes after the birth

You can eat this again while breastfeeding: the pregnancy-specific risks (listeria, toxoplasmosis, salmonella) no longer apply after birth. Keep normal food hygiene.

Instead

  • Fried egg flipped, with a firm yolk
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Well-cooked omelette
